It's Easy to Make a Buck….

Behind the Scenes

As Tom Brokaw said, it’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.

In light of National Volunteer week, I’d like to thank all the volunteers who make a difference to KTEH and the community when they give their time and expertise to support public television.

For many, many years KTEH’s live pledge programs were produced by a largely volunteer crew. Last December thirty volunteer crew members worked on the live show “KTEH Cooks with Garlic.” They knocked themselves out executing the 2 studio, 5 camera shoot with 3 hosts, 16 guests and a live audience. The operation in the studio was masterfully executed. The right food was always in the right kitchen with the right chef; the stoves never ran out of gas and nothing caught on fire.

Without our committed team of technical volunteers, “KTEH Cooks…,” and other productions like it, would simply not happen.

I’d like to shine a special light on our volunteer floor director, Carol Baker. Carol is one of this year’s recipients of the McNeil Volunteer Award. Thanks to Carol and all the KTEH volunteers for making a difference.

Becca, thank you for the kind words. It was a huge honor to receive the McNeil award for 2009. The award belongs to each of the tech volunteers who have put their hearts into making the best possible productions at KTEH. We are looking forward to the next productions.
