This week This is Us comes from San Jose's Japantown. One of only three Japantowns in the country, it's a real local treasure
On the show this week, you’ll hear the remarkable stories of four Japanese Americans, a doctor who was one of only two women in her 1941 medical school class, a couple who’s story is hard to beat- they founded San Jose Taiko, and a man who’s name is familiar to all of us. We named our airport for him- Norman Mineta.
Finally, I hope you have an appetite because we’ll also learn a lot about making sushi from local chef- Kazoo. Here's a sneak peek:

Thank you for the sneak peek! I may have missed the show (hope not!) It was nice working with John Gregg. Hope Japantown made some memorable impressions!
And most of all - hope you'll be back!

Kathy,
Thanks for all the help. We really enjoyed Japantown.
We had a great time making sushi with chef Kazoo.
The show aired on March 3 so you missed the first run but you can still see it.
It will be on again 5/19 at 6:30 p.m. and 5/22 at 1:30 p.m.
Thanks for the comment,

Heya, already been following your blog for some time. I run a comparable blog page but I always keep receiving a great deal of spam comments, how can you keep your blog page so clean?

It is Sunday at about 1:45 pm. I now understand I was watching a rebroadcast. The suchi making was interesting and so was the 1 1/2 inch cockroach walking from right to left across the top of a counter ledge in the background. This occured between the making of the medium and large size suchi rolls. I will also be notifying the San Francisco Environmental Health Department.

Hi Clare,
Rest assured, what you saw was not a bug!
We were shooting in a sushi bar. Between the diners and where we were, with the chef, is a moat. Small bamboo boats travel around the bar, on the moat, carrying sushi to the diners.
What you saw moving was the top edge of one of the boats traveling by on the moat below.
Boy, did you give us a scare!
Thanks for the comment.
