It cannot go unmentioned that we are beside ourselves with excitement over the fantastic "How Who Are You?" entries.
If you've submitted a video into the competition, you may be wondering what's next. Rest assured, your submissions have not gone missing or tumbled into E space.
We'll be featuring them here over the next couple of weeks, before the official voting period begins. In fact, we may be getting in touch with you personally for a little more information about how you did what you did.
P.S. It has crossed our minds to consider slightly extending the deadline. This would mean those of you who've already entered would have time to tweak your entries until they are absolutely perfect. (Or, if you're feeling prolific, you could make a second entry.) Those who didn't hear about the contest until like, a day or two before the deadline, would still have a chance to participate. It might be a chance for everyone to travel back a week and set things right.
Let us know what you think. We're especially interested in hearing from those who've already entered. Please share your thoughts in the comment section.

Hmm. Well first thing's first. I would decide soon - as in by tomorrow or this weekend at the latest - if you're going to extend the deadline. If so, I'd suggest two weeks, Say April 5th Midnight PST, allowing a reasonable amount of time for additional/new and tweaked entries yet still not let those of us who honored the original deadline feel too slighted. And *important* you'll need to re-advertise this contest and the new deadline - not only to sites like tribe, io9 etc., but it's really important to hit LJ, yahoo groups and the big kahuana- the GallifreyOne newspage.

Either way though- an announcement of at least tenetive dates for Finalist selection, Finalist airing on KTEH and winner announcement would be what us entrants are really looking for. Also how does this voting work after they air? is it a viewer call in? Write-in? Both? Is there a time limit to this? On the night only? or 24 hours etc?
Comments and ratings on youtube can be an indicator but it automatically places entries that were submitted weeks if not months prior to the people who eeked by on the deadline at an skewed advantage with more time to have been seen by others.
I think for those outside CA or who are online/exhibition only - they would want to know what prizes they are eligible for winning- the original rules left that vague. T-Shirt? Who Soundtrack CD? Mug? something?
Lastly for the grand prize winner- will the marathon be taped likely on a weekday or weekend? Will it be done 'live' or pre-taped? (so said winners could effectively invite friends later and watch their own marathon as it airs?) and last will they be limited to New Series episodes or certain Classic series episodes? If circumstances are anything like the 80's and 90's I know how the Who syndication packages can get broken up- and how rare it is for a single station to have broadcastable access to all 26-plus seasons of Dr. Who at a single time.
These are my questions and concerns. Please keep us all posted!
March 19th, 2009 at 11:52 am
When is the actual show going to be on?
Is it, say for instance, going to be in June sometime?
March 19th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Hi folks - thanks for these comments so far, and for taking the time to be so thoughtful. Lots of good questions and ideas here! (Most of these questions will be answered in an upcoming post, but it's good to know exactly what you want to see addressed.)
One thing I can say for certain is that the marathon will be taped (live to tape) and that we'll coordinate with whomever ends up winning the host-spot to ensure that the taping works with their schedule.
Keep the thoughts and suggestions coming!
Cheers -

Well on the one hand I'm kind of sad, because we got a little bit rushed to make sure it was done on time. On the other hand, the other videos have been so fun, endearing, hilarious, clever, etc. I kinda want to see what will come up.
I totally agree with HonoraryDoctor (who I think attended the same panel about making Doctor Who Videos at Gally 1 this year) about making a decision and announcing soon.
I would also add that if you're posting to other sites about the extended deadline you should add
http://community.livejournal.com/crafty-tardis to the list.

I think I read that there were only 5 or 6 entries?

Well if you're only going to televise the winner video,
Everyone did a lot of work, and I'm sure all the entrants
would rather have their video on t.v. than getting any prizes.
Maybe it could be an 'everyone's a winner' type thing or something
and each do an intro segment and an interview with 2 or 3 friends
for each different episode?
I know I couldn't host a complete marathon, because it would
be practically all 'Dead air' televised panic attack style television.
"PBS winner breaks down live on air for 6 hours"
Also I'm friends with Mr. Lobo if you need an interviewer,
so if that sounds cool I can ask him about it.
It could maybe be like a party at a donated hotel lobby type
of place where he walks around and interviews and keeps things
moving with his interviewing skills :D.
He was one I was going to invite if I won, and my brother.
I have to get back in touch with him, I deleted all my
celebrity friends after I thought Eve Salvail deleted me.

Here's a poster I made for Mr. Lobo,
He's written to me probably 15 times.
I'm also Myspace friends with Maddona!

I'm not really myspace friends with Madonna, but perhaps I can write to her and see if she would be interested in becoming involved in all this

I'm of two minds about this. As someone who heard about this contest like 3 days before the deadline I understand the whole anguish of people who only just found out about the contest. And if the deadline was extended I probably would make a bunch of movies for it.
On the other hand I think that announcing a deadline extension a week after the deadline has passed is a tad unfair. People did do their best to make sure they had a product at the stated date, adjusting their schedules because they thought they had to have their movies done by the deadline.
I personally think the best way to let everyone who wants to join in the fun that is fair to everyone would be to hold another contest. That or late entries need to have some sort of secondary restriction, like be under 1:30 instead of 2 minutes or something like that.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:58 am
James has a point. A deadline extension prior to the original date is one thing, but doing so afterwards does feel increasingly unfair to those of us who complied with the 1st date. If there is a deadline extension perhaps to keep things fair you could open it up to online/exhibition folks only (be they new entries or tweaked existing entries that would allow them into the contest) - they may still be aired on KTEH and win whatever the online prize is but could not compete otherwise. But I can see the value in having more entires to air or allowing some of us to perfect/add new movie so it's your call, it just needs to be made soon.
It might be best to air what entries/finalists you have- Advertise this well and use this as a springboard for a second competition like James suggests.
hitshermark- I was at Gallifrey but I did not attend the video making panel- I didn't really have time there for many panels at all actually!
Adam- If you do a youtube search for the KTEH Doctor Who tags you'll find 10 entries total. However, 1 was an example done for KTEH themselves (the Ood) and is non-competing. 2 others have potential copyright issues due to images/music. Another is from a Non-US resident. Jay's great entry is currently overlength as well as yours. (I know you did submit a 2 minute version before the deadline but that one is not correctly tagged) So depending on how lenient KTEH wants to be with copyright and the tag issues we're looking at 5 - 7 competing entries. (Unless one of the remainder is also from a non-CA resident which would further reduce the number).
On the bright side, should they not extend the deadline this makes their job easier. The current entries pretty much automatically become the "5 - 10″ finalists and all that's left is to determine the three winners. (Four winners counting the others who should qualify still for the online/exhibition prize).
March 20th, 2009 at 11:53 am
These are all great points.
Speaking for myself only (not KTEH), I felt a little bad for those folks who didn't get their entries trimmed in time to enter — but then, as some of you mentioned, I wanted to be fair to those who did get theirs in on time.
By turning it over to you folks to discuss, I hoped we might hit on a solution. The ideas here are amazingly helpful, and at this point, I think there is a way to honor everyone without extending the deadline.

honorarydoctor - I mistakenly thought you were the one dressed up as 10. Because I was there when he asked Tara if he could film himself unlocking and entering her TARDIS, which I recognized in the opening of your video, and then I saw him at the panel later. If I'm not mistaken, you're actually the 7 with the awesome Guess umbrella? I was very sad I missed your skit on Saturday.
Stacy - Creating categories seems like the way to go.
March 22nd, 2009 at 3:24 pm
hitshermark - Yes that 10th Doctor was part of my group and was featured in the video. Although there was a second 10 the same day (in a lighter brown overcoat) who was doing the same thing only with a green screen background he set up later that afternoon. I was the Seven on Friday in the Season 25 outfit but on Sat and Sun I was usually the Season 12 4th Doctor (and in the video as well).
Too bad you missed our skit. however you can see it on youtube here:

Stacy - Hope we've been able to help you guys find a solution to move things along. Looking forward to updates! I'm sure like everyone here, I've got a lot of friends asking when this will air.
March 25th, 2009 at 2:34 am
Im voting for a a deadline extension. Strictly due to the fact that my Flip Mino pooped out on me the day of the deadline.
And really, are deadlines the kinda thing we should stick to when we all know that timestreams are really just a big ball of wibbley wobbley timeywimey stuff?
March 25th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Either way - what's the word on how/when things will move forward?
March 25th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
I'm now leaning towards a deadline extension but with a 90 second or 1 minute time limit.
March 25th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
A mixed blessing. 2 minutes was tough enough! But somehow we would rise to the challenge!
March 26th, 2009 at 6:26 am
Well That would leave me out. There is no way i can cut the Doctors Destiny down to 90 Seconds. I understand however and wish everyone luck.
March 26th, 2009 at 7:24 am
The latter any decision is made on an extension- the more unfair it will be regardless of a new length requirement or not. At this stage everyone shouldn't be making any declarations til we have the official word on what KTEH is going to do regarding all of the above issues. I still say especially at this late stage, any deadline extension be for online/exhibition only - and clarify what those are eligible to win. I primarily want to know what the new dates/timeline will be from Fan Film airdate, then method of winner selection and loose projection of when said prizes will be given out etc.
March 26th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Hi Folks - Apologies for not being more clear in my comment on March 20th… what I should have said is that based on the suggestions you'd all made we'd instead take a different approach and would *not* be extending the deadline.
I'm working now on a post to get everyone caught up on the latest info and let you know what to expect next, but an extension isn't under consideration any longer.
March 26th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Hi stacybond, is there also an address to send in the 'higher quality' DVD version?

Youtube compressed the hell out of my video, plus youtube is only 20 or 25 frames per second non interlaced, so broadcasted it would look like a 150 kps flickery low quality terrible slideshow
March 27th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Hi Adam - yes, there is. I'll post that for everyone when we are ready to start accepting the higher resolution files.
