THE KTEH “HOW WHO ARE YOU?” VIDEO COMPETITION
1. What is the process for submitting my video into the video competition?
Step 1: Make a video. A funny one, a scary one, a profound one…a two-minute or less one. Any style is acceptable, as long as it references an aspect of the Doctor Who television series and follows the rules outlined below.
Step 2: Post your video. Simply upload your original mini-episode to one of the many free online video sharing sites, such as http://youtube.com, http://blip.tv/, or http://flickr.com. (Be sure to set the permissions so you can provide the embeddable code for the video.)
Step 3: Tag your video with the following tags: KTEHTV, KTEH Doctor Who, Doctor Who Competition, Doctor Who, and “How Who Are You?” You can also include other tags as you see fit, but DO NOT tag your video “BBC.” That could just get confusing. We want people to know this is the KTEH Doctor Who Video Competition, and that it isn’t affiliated with any BBC promotion.
Step 4: Send us the links to your work. Simply email the video url along with the embed code to Managing Editor.
Step 5: Tell everyone you know about your masterpiece, and point them to KTEH.org/drwho so they can wax rhapsodic about how absolutely brilliant your submission is.
2. Who can enter?
Anyone over the age of 13 can post a video on the Contest Site, be they human, alien or Time Lord. (If you’re under the age of 18, be sure to get your parents’ or guardians’ permission before entering!)
3. What information must I supply when I enter?
Each entrant must supply their name, city and at least one (1) valid email account in order to qualify. By entering the contest you grant KTEH the right to contact you regarding your submission.
4. What type of file format should I use?
Prepare your content in the highest resolution you can, and hang on to the original files, in case we want to use your video for something beyond the scope of YouTube and/or the competition page on our website. You’ll probably have to make a duplicate and compress it for uploading initially, but if you become a finalist, we may request the original, higher resolution file from you. So hang on to that master copy!
5. How many videos can I submit?
You can submit as many videos as you’d like, but you cannot submit multiple versions of the same video. Each entry must be unique, and each video must be submitted in the name of one, and only one, entrant.
6. How long can my video be?
Your video can be anywhere from 20 seconds to two-minutes long. The total running time may not exceed 120 seconds.
7. Can I change my video once I've posted it?
Yes, up to three times until the date the finalists are chosen. But remember, you cannot enter multiple versions of the same video. Therefore, if you want to submit an updated version, please remove the original submission first. Also, be aware that by removing and resubmitting, you will lose any votes or reviews accrued on the first version of your submission. Once the finalists are chosen, no further changes can be made.
8. Must my submission be appropriate for all audiences?
Yes. In keeping with the spirit of the Doctor Who series, all entries must be appropriate for all audiences. For example, videos referencing sex, violence, drug use, or that include racial slurs will not be accepted as entries and will be deleted from the competition page on our website. They will not be considered eligible for hosting, linking, exhibition, presentation, voting or prizes
9. May I submit a slideshow?
No. We are looking for original, live action, mini-episodes of Doctor Who, written, acted and produced by you. But you may be as creative as you’d like with the special effects!
10. May I submit a remix of Doctor Who clips? Alternatively, may I submit a mix of other people's entries?
No. Submissions must be thoroughly original works. By submitting a video into the contest, you hereby represent and warrant that (1) the submitted video is your own original creation, (2) it does not infringe any other person's or entity's rights, and (3) that you have obtained permission from the people featured in the video to enter this contest. By entering, you also represent and warrant that your submission of the idea will not violate any enforceable agreements or understandings you may have with any third party. For example, if you made the video for Disney, you cannot submit it here.
11. May I use copyrighted material such as music in my video?
You may not submit material you do not own or have the rights or permission to use (via a license or otherwise) including, but not limited to, music. For example, your video may not contain third party voice-overs for which you have not obtained the rights to use, or third party stock photography or artwork for which you have not obtained the rights to use.
12. Do I need to save my original video file once I've uploaded my submission?
Yes. Finalists and the grand prize contest winner will also be required to upload the full resolution master to KTEH’s FTP server within five (5) days of notification by KTEH. If the winner fails to meet the aforementioned requirements, an alternative finalist may be selected.
13. How do I enter?
Entries may only be made as described in these rules: by posting the video online, tagging it appropriately and then emailing the URL and the embed codes to the email address listed in the rules. There are no alternate means of entry.
Only the submission of a video as described in these rules before the end of the Entry Period will constitute proof of entry. No other proof of entry or attempted entry (such as an automated computer receipt) will be accepted.
14. When is the deadline?
Videos may be submitted between November 28th, 2008 and March 15th, 2009 (the “Entry Period”). No entries will be accepted after midnight Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), March 15th, 2009.
15. How do I win?
We want to reward the most creative efforts and get folks talking about them! So in the weeks following the closing submission date of the entry period, KTEH will choose finalists from among those videos that are most creative, fun and in keeping with the spirit of the Doctor Who series. (Finalists will be required to supply evidence of eligibility.) Once KTEH selects five to ten finalists, we’ll show them on the air on KTEH TV and invite viewers to log-on and vote for their favorite. The video finalist with the most votes at the end of the voting period will be declared the Grand Prize Winner, provided the entrant has adhered to the official rules of the competition and meets eligibility requirements.
16. What are the eligibility requirements?
The “eligibility requirements” are the requirements you must meet in order to be selected as a finalist in the contest. Finalists must have adhered to the contest rules, be reachable by KTEH via a valid email address, and in the case of a minor, be able to provide a parental consent form. (Finalists also may not be employees or directors of, or related to or living in the same household as, employees or directors of Northern California Public Broadcasting, Inc., will be selected as finalists.)
17. What is the prize?
The Grand Prize is a bundle of British goodies PLUS the chance to gather six friends and appear on KTEH as hosts of your very own “Doctor Who” Marathon. Sorry, transportation to KTEH’s studio in San Jose, California is not provided and is the winner’s responsibility. (Value of the goodies is approximately $45.00). The top three non-grand prize winning finalists will get a KTEH Doctor Who t-shirt (valued at approximately $15.99).
18. What else do I need to know?
Well, the really legal stuff might come in handy, so here it is:

You understand and agree that KTEH may request more information from you for such purposes, should your video become a finalist or the grand prize winner.
On any companion website for your video maintained by or on behalf of you, you agree, for the duration of the competition, to place in a prominent manner that the video is being featured in the “KTEH ‘HOW WHO ARE YOU?’ Video Competition,” and to tag your work accordingly on YouTube and other video sharing sites. G. RELEASE FROM LIABILITY
Entrants agree that KTEH and related individuals or entities shall not be liable for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from acceptance of prize(s), participation in the contest, individual, joint or collective technical malfunctions of the telephone network and/or transmission line, computer on-line system, computer dating mechanism, computer equipment, hardware and/or software, or any delay or distortion of an entry resulting from data transmissions that are garbled, incomplete, misdirected, lost, mutilated, delayed, corrupted, mechanically duplicated, illegible or otherwise not in compliance with these official rules. You also agree that KTEH is not liable for damage to a user's computer system (including, without limitation, any server failure or lost, delayed or corrupted data or other malfunction) due, either directly or indirectly, to an entrant's participation in the contest or downloading of information in connection with the contest. KTEH reserves the right to modify or cancel the contest in the event that any portion of any website used to administer any aspect of the contest becomes technically corrupted.
