Mervyn A. Staton – Senior Editor/Moderator

Merv Staton is currently involved in creating individual pieces of Designer Jewellery, as well as Science Fiction and Steampunk Artifacts.

Previously Merv was Coordinating Producer at KTEH, the Silicon Valley Public Television station in San Jose, CA. He’s also produced several DVD projects and interviews with visiting celebrities, and has worked with the KTEH Production Department on local programs.

Merv's scientific background goes back to his BSc in Physics from Manchester University in England. This was further developed during his post graduate research in Deep Inelastic Muon Scattering at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory at Oxford University, England and at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Chicago, IL, which led to the publication of papers in the prestigious Physics Review Letters, including “Muon Scattering at 219 GeV and the Proton Structure Functions” and “Measurement of the Proton Structure Function from Muon Scattering”.

After completing his formal education Merv entered the business world, holding engineering and managerial posts in several companies and using his scientific and technical understanding to create innovative solutions to real world problems. While at IBM these solutions gave rise to two patents in “Voice processing system and method” and “Client-server system”.

Merv has also been involved in the day to day running of companies, having been Director of his own small business in England, and CTO of a start-up in the USA.

He has maintained his life long interest in ham radio, including amateur television, for which he built his own transmitter in the early ‘80s. Another long term interest has been astronomy, and he recently completed a Master of Astronomy at James Cook University, Australia.

His other big passion is Science Fiction, which probably started around age 5, was really ignited at age 10 when Doctor Who first appeared on the BBC. Merv has watched every single episode produced, which is rare since the BBC destroyed a number of the early black and white stories. Currently Merv is President of “The Legion of Rassilon,” the Bay Area Doctor Who fan club which meets monthly in San Jose.

Stacy Bond - Managing Editor/Administrator

Stacy is a journalist, public media producer and social media strategist. She works closely with public broadcasting stations to create and execute engagement projects that are right for their individual community of unique viewers and listeners.

She has been making sound-rich radio for more than twenty years, most recently as Producer of KQED's The California Report, an award-winning news-magazine heard by 750,000 listeners weekly. Prior to that, she was at NPR in Washington, DC, where she was part of the team that produced NPR’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the September 11th attacks. Her work has been heard on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and other NPR programs.

Stacy first experimented with social media at KQED, where she led a social media initiative celebrating Ten Years of The California Report. Upon seeing (and hearing) the results of that endeavor, she was struck by the potential power of interactive media when it revolves around on-air programming. Moved and charmed by the enthusiasm of the show’s fans, Stacy left KQED to found AudioLuxe, a non-profit production company that explores and implements new media in public broadcasting.

Stacy is an accidental Doctor Who fan, having become addicted to the series after David Tennant joined the cast and turned the Doctor into a bit of a hipster. She will be sorry to see him go.
